Rights in Action: Social and Behavior Change x Human Rights Summit

Since 2019, the Initiative for Advancing Community Transformation (I-ACT) has been collaborating with the Philippine human rights community in pioneering social and behavior change (SBC) in rights advocacy.

We have worked across different levels of the human rights sector, partnering with broad national coalitions, supporting grassroots organizations, and empowering individual communications workers to practice and integrate behavior-informed strategies at a wide scale.

Through these partnerships, we have reached strategic regions across the country, grown online followings and offline champions, reaped lessons and best practices, and encouraged segments of Filipinos to take positive human rights actions.

After an almost five-year journey of experimentation and innovations, we will hold a Summit in May 2024 to present actionable insights from behavioral research, showcase the fruits of our multi-level collaborations, and discuss sector-wide ways forward.

Comprising presentations, panels, exhibits, screenings, and networking opportunities, the summit will spotlight the theme “Rights In Action: Collaborative Innovation for Democratic Impact.” The theme encapsulates our achievements so far, but also brings forward an urgent call for greater collective action. See the three sub-themes below!

Collaboration

Behavioral interventions are more sustainable through collaboration. We aim to present a case for collaboration in promoting the application of SBC in human rights advocacy.

Experimentation

At the heart of SBC is experimentation. We aim to showcase the groundbreaking work of our partners – promising practices and lessons learned in testing and prototyping.

Impact and Sustainability

SBC, with its rigorous and evidence-based approach, promises more impact. We aim to present our collective impact and share insights on how to build on our work for future sustainability.

Recognizing the importance of bridging diverse stakeholders in sustaining SBC-informed innovations to respond to emerging democratic challenges, the Summit will also provide a platform for cross-sector collaboration as we gather changemakers from the broader development community: donor and social impact organizations, government allies, the academe, and the media.

Amidst a challenging human rights terrain, the event recognizes the bright spots of democracy. Join us from May 14 to 15, 2024 as we aim to shine a light on the power of collectively championing responsive, inclusive, and sustainable behavioral solutions in human rights promotion.
